Playground Safety Inspections Across the Shire
Published on 05 March 2025
Council will be undertaking comprehensive playground safety inspections across the shire, ensuring that playgrounds throughout the Shire remain safe, fun, and accessible for all members of the community.
“With fifteen playgrounds strategically located across the region—including several at public swimming pool sites—Council is proud to provide essential community assets that promote recreation, relaxation, and learning, said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Kathryn Rindfleish. “These play spaces cater to children of all ages and offer opportunities for both active and passive play, in both supervised and unsupervised settings.”
To maintain the safety and enjoyment of these areas, Council has engaged a qualified and experienced Playground Safety Inspection Consultant, certified by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). The consultant will conduct a comprehensive round of safety inspections on all playgrounds across the Shire from 7 March to 9 March 2025.
“The safety inspections are designed to ensure all playgrounds comply with Australian Standards for playground safety, as well as to evaluate the overall stability of the equipment, footings, surfacing, structural integrity, and the presence of any corrosion or rotting,” Cr Rindfleish explained. Additionally, any changes made as part of recent repairs or component replacements will be carefully checked for safety.
The inspections will also include a thorough Condition Assessment of each playground, culminating in the production of detailed reports. These reports will provide a prioritised list of recommended actions, which may include decommissioning, maintenance, or renewals.
“This initiative reinforces Council’s ongoing commitment to providing a network of quality play areas that are safe, engaging, and accessible for all families and visitors. We appreciate the community’s continued support and look forward to sharing the outcomes of the inspections,” Cr Rindfleish concluded.
