Council offers many areas for work experience and values the opportunity to participate in work experience programs for our local school students, as well as TAFE and university students who undertake placements to help them in their studies.

How to Apply

All applications for work experience must be in writing and meet the guidelines below. Please note that verbal discussions held with proposed supervisors are only preliminary and do not guarantee placement approval.

The School, Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or student must submit the following documents to careers@warrumbungle.nsw.gov.au at least one month before the proposed work experience start date:

  1. Work Experience Application - online form 
  2. Student Placement Record (schools only)
  3. Certificate of Currency showing student is covered by School/RTO's insurances
  4. Student's White Card (if required - see application form).
  5. Every student hosted by Council must complete an online induction prior to starting their work experience/placement. This will be arranged by a member of Council's Human Resources team.
  6. Students hosted within the Technical Services or Environment and Development Services divisions of Council must hold a valid OHS Construction Induction Certificate (white card), a copy of which must be provided to Council at least 10 days before commencement. In addition, the student must carry this card with them at all times while on work experience.
  7. All students working outdoors must wear:
    • long work trousers
    • long sleeve work shirt (high visibility preferred)
    • safety toe boots
    • broadbrimmed hat 
    • sunglasses
    • sunscreen.
  8. Students working indoors and in the Children's Services area do not require safety toe boots however enclosed shoes and appropriate attire must be worn. a Working with Children Check (volunteer) may also be required for students over 18 years of age.
  9. All students are required to comply with any work health and safety directions and wear any additional personal protective equipment (PPE) that may be issued to them (eg high visibility vest, hearing protection).
  10. Students working outdoors should also bring their lunch/snacks and a large water bottle with them as they may not be able to leave the worksite to purchase lunch.

All applicants for work experience will be advised one week prior to their start date whether Council's requirements have been met, and whether their placement has been confirmed. While every effort is made to accommodate work placement requests, at times Council may need to decline applications based on operational considerations.

All students approved work experience must complete Council's online induction prior to commencement.
