Recent research reveals that while most people understand the negative impact of illegal dumping, many believe they won't get caught Council emphasises the importance of community involvement in tackling this issue. Research shows that most people know illegal dumping is wrong. However, the real challenge is that many individuals don't think they will face consequences for their actions. We need everyone’s help to prevent illegal dumping and to hold those responsible accountable.
To help combat illegal dumping, the community is encouraged to take the following steps:
- Dispose of Waste Properly: Ensure all waste is taken to the appropriate disposal site.
- Report Illegal Dumping: Use the RID Online Public portal to report any incidents of illegal dumping. Visit RID Online, click on "Make a Report," and follow the prompts.
If you encounter illegally dumped waste in bushland or on roadways, please document the situation as follows:
- Take Photos: Capture images of the entire site and any specific items in the waste that might help identify the source.
- Log the coordinates to ensure acurate identification of the site
- Enter the information into the RIDOnline site
- If you witnessed the dumping from a vehicle, note the vehicle’s registration number and the state in which it is registered.
Providing details and information through the RIDOnline Public Portal will assist Councils’ Compliance Officers in locating the waste and taking appropriate action against offenders.
