Planning for Bush Fire Protection

The NSW Rural Fire Service has established Planning for Bush Fire Protection(PDF, 10MB) guide to assist owners in ensuring that their property is protected during a bushfire. All properties within the Shire that are Bushfire Prone Land needs to meet the standards set out in this document. Additionally, any developments for Dwellings in RU1 Primary Production Zones will require a Bush Fire Report from a suitably qualified Bushfire Consultant

If your property is within the Bushfire Prone area it will depend on the zoning of the land as to what documents are required when building. Any developments for Dwellings in RU1 Primary Production Zones will require a Bush Fire Report from a suitably qualified Bushfire Consultant this report will establish Bushfire Attack Level (BAL). There are a number of different BALs from 12.5 to flame zone. Each level has different construction requirements as per Australian Standard 3959 Construction of Buildings in Bushfire Prone Areas and all requirements are to be shown on the plans submitted to Council for approval.
